Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Site Fitter with experience in the installation of architectural metalwork to join our site team. The ideal candidate will hold a NVQ Level 2 in a relevant discipline (e.g., Site Installation of Architectural Metalwork or Steelwork Erection) and be confident working from drawings to install a variety of metal elements in both residential and commercial construction settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install a range of architectural metalwork components including:
- Balustrades and handrails
- Staircases (feature and structural)
- Canopies, balconies, and walkways
- Railings, gates, and bespoke steel features
- Work from technical drawings and site measurements to ensure accurate and high-quality installations
- Use hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment safely and competently
- Collaborate with site supervisors, project managers, and other trades to ensure smooth workflows and timely completion
- Carry out installation tasks in line with Health & Safety standards and site-specific RAMS
- Ensure correct fixing methods, alignments, and finishes are achieved
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, particularly with aesthetically sensitive or decorative items
- Record and report any site issues, changes, or material shortages
- Comply with site access, PPE, and security requirements
Required Skills and Experience:
- NVQ Level 2 in Site Installation of Architectural Metalwork, Steel Erection, or related field
- Proven experience (2+ years) fitting architectural or structural metalwork on construction sites
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, measurements, and setting-out information
- Skilled in safe use of hand and power tools (e.g., grinders, drills, impact drivers, rivet guns)
- Comfortable working at height using MEWPs, scaffolding, and access platforms
- Strong awareness of on-site safety procedures and commitment to safe working practices
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Good communication skills with other trades and site personnel
Qualifications & Certifications:
- NVQ Level 2 in relevant trade (mandatory)
- CSCS Card (Blue Skilled Worker level or equivalent)
- PASMA, IPAF, or Working at Height certification (preferred)
- Manual Handling and First Aid (desirable but not essential)
- Full UK Driving Licence (advantageous)
Desirable Traits:
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
- Professional approach to work, with pride in delivering quality installations
- Flexible with travel and willing to work overtime or occasional weekends as required
- Experience working on both residential and commercial projects
- Familiarity with installation of stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminium products
