The Role

As a Sub Agent, you will take responsibility for managing small-value civil engineering and construction projects or support the Site Agent and Project Manager on larger schemes. You’ll ensure projects are delivered to client objectives while maintaining high standards of health and safety, quality, environmental compliance, and cost control.


Key Responsibilities

Site Management

  • Maintain the commercial performance of assigned contracts.

  • Oversee the successful delivery of projects from start to completion.

  • Produce and manage the project programme, ensuring progress aligns with targets.

  • Interpret drawings and specifications accurately.

  • Provide technical and engineering support to the project team.

  • Ensure all staff, subcontractors, and visitors are properly inducted, qualified, and compliant with site requirements.

  • Represent the company professionally to clients, the public, and relevant authorities.

  • Deliver completed work to client satisfaction.

  • Produce accurate and timely monthly reports for internal and client review.

  • Chair regular site meetings in line with company procedures.

  • Obtain and maintain accurate ‘as-built’ information.

Health, Safety, Environment and Quality

  • Comply with company procedures and all legal obligations, promoting best practice across all areas.

  • Foster a positive culture of safety, environmental compliance, and quality.

  • Manage site operations and subcontractors, ensuring standards are upheld.

  • Maintain all HSEQ-related documentation and briefings.

  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits, ensuring reports are produced and acted upon.

  • Liaise effectively with third parties, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.

  • Maintain an up-to-date Quality Assurance file.

  • Ensure all works are delivered snag-free and on time.

Cost Control

  • Contribute to the preparation and management of project cost plans.

  • Maximise project value while controlling costs and challenging inefficiencies.

  • Maintain detailed site records and diaries for commercial and operational transparency.

Managing Resources

  • Address resource issues promptly and proactively.

  • Ensure resource allocation and utilisation records are complete and accurate.


About You

Essential

  • Significant experience in civil engineering.

  • Strong knowledge of NEC contract conditions, CDM regulations, design management, risk management, and cost control processes.

  • Good understanding of specifications and testing regimes relevant to general civil engineering.

  • Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).

  • Valid CSCS card.

  • SMSTS certification.

  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualification.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and people management skills.

  • Ability to challenge designs, solve problems, and deliver practical solutions.

Desirable

  • Working towards CEng, IEng AMICE, or equivalent professional status.

  • Experience in water or utilities sectors.

  • Temporary Works Coordinator qualification.

  • Proven leadership experience.

  • Service avoidance training.

  • Confined space training.

  • Appointed Person CPCS card.
